How We Make Wooden Muggle Gifts & Crafts
Posted by Michael Dooley on
We pride ourselves in our ability to make the items that we sell. Our wooden coasters and shields are some of the most interesting and harder items that we created. Here are the steps we take to create some amazing Muggle gifts and crafts.
1. Creating the artwork is very challenging since we are making our designs from scratch. We create in Adobe Photoshop to sharpen the colors and lines.
2. We transfer the files into Adobe Illustrator for more adjustments. When the files are moved into Illustrated, we create a vector file from the artwork.
3. After the vector file is created, we then import the file to another program that will work with the lazer cutter. The file that once had color to it is not just a series of outlines of where the colors used to be. Once the file has entered into this phase, the painstaking work of editing takes place.
4. The image is blown-up on the screen to 400% so that we can adjust all shapes, lines, and pixels. During this phase, we are meticulous about the placement of literally every pixels that was generated within the vector file.
5. When we are satisfied with the file, we can now make adjustments to the lazer: depth of the lazer, speed, type of cut, and power. Depending on the amount of 'burn' we want to generate, we can adjust the power and speed to produce our desired results.
6. After the lazer has cut out our design, each piece of wood is lightly sanded to remove any small defects the lazer might have produced. Multiple layers of stain are slowly sealed into the wood over several days. Our final coat depending on the item is a sealant of lacquer or epoxy.
